U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked major reactions online after announcing a joint U.S.-Nigeria military operation that reportedly killed ISIS second-in-command Abu Bilal al-Minuki. Posting on Truth Social, Trump described the operation as a “complex mission” carried out by American and Nigerian forces against what he called one of the world’s most active terrorists.

Meanwhile, fear and panic have spread across parts of Oyo State after terrorists launched coordinated attacks on three schools in Orire Local Government Area, abducting more than 45 students and teachers while killing an assistant headmaster.

Videos circulating online show one of the abducted principals speaking from captivity, as Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven teachers were kidnapped and one victim has already been killed by the abductors.

In Yobe State, the Nigeria Police Force also confirmed the killing of 17 police officers undergoing specialised counter-terrorism training at a military facility in Gujba Local Government Area after terrorists reportedly launched coordinated midnight attacks on the training school.

In politics, the APC House of Representatives primaries produced several high-profile winners and shocking losses across the country. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas secured his ticket for a possible fifth term in the House, while Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, won his first APC ticket in Katsina State.

However, socialite and businessman Cubana Chief Priest suffered a major setback after losing the APC ticket for a House of Representatives seat in Imo State despite his close ties to Seyi Tinubu.

In Benue State, angry residents staged protests against the ongoing APC primaries, carrying coffins and placards while demanding an end to political activities until worsening insecurity and killings are addressed.
