Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared FCT Minister Nyesom Wike the common leader of his supporters, marking a dramatic shift after their bitter political feud. At the unveiling of the Wike-backed Rainbow Coalition, Fubara pledged support for Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate.

Meanwhile, Wike declared Rivers State firmly behind President Tinubu’s re-election, urging supporters across party lines to vote for Tinubu and the APC candidate. Although the coalition promises an end to winner-takes-all politics, questions remain about the future of opposition parties in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has urged the National Assembly to reject Tinubu’s request for $20.5 billion and over €1 billion in foreign loans. Atiku questioned the lack of details about the proposed projects, costs and contractors, warning that the borrowing could be disguised campaign financing. The Senate has given its debt committee one week to report on the request.

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege is defending his “rig and die” declaration, insisting it was a warning to election riggers. His adviser, Godwin Anaughe, described electoral rigging as treason, while Delta APC urged residents to report offenders and reject violence.

In another development, INEC’s PVC pickup page is reportedly inaccessible, with users receiving an error message when attempting to access it. This comes amid complaints about alleged AI-generated images in the voters’ register, which the commission says it is investigating. Voters are calling for a quick resolution ahead of the 2027 elections.

On health matters, the NCDC has dismissed speculation that the 2027 elections could be postponed because of Ebola. Director-General Dr Jide Idris says there is currently no need to postpone the polls, although more than 50 contacts remain under surveillance.

Meanwhile, AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has confronted prison wardens at the Federal High Court in Abuja after they reportedly ordered journalists and supporters to stop filming. Sowore argued that the court is a public institution. He was attending his trial involving the DSS.

Nigeria also remembers Dr Stella Adadevoh, who would have turned 70 on October 27. She helped contain the 2014 Ebola outbreak by preventing infected traveller Patrick Sawyer from leaving her hospital. Adadevoh contracted the virus and died in August 2014, becoming a symbol of courage and sacrifice.

In entertainment and lifestyle, former Miss Nigeria Shatu Garko has graduated with a First Class degree in Business Management from Middlesex University in Dubai. Garko made history in 2021 as the pageant’s first hijab-wearing queen.

Also, Leadership Newspapers has named THISDAY and ARISE News chairman Prince Nduka Obaigbena its 2026 Person of the Year, recognising his contributions to Nigerian media and journalism.

Meanwhile, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared a romantic moment with his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, presenting her with red flowers and a kiss at the opening of the National Women’s Conference.

Finally, Lagos State is set to host its inaugural Gele Festival on November 8 at Eko Amore Garden, celebrating the stylists, fabric makers and women preserving the Yoruba headtie tradition.
