#SABCNews Headlines @06H30 AM | 08 March 2023
* Paul Mashatile has been sworn in as the country's ninth Deputy President. He became the deputy president of the governing ANC in December last year.
* The GOOD party has attributed the latest developments in the city of Tshwane to what it terms all major political parties' selfish games. This follows an announcement that the recently elected mayor and COPE's Murunwa Makwarela, has been disqualified as Proportional Representative Councillor. This has left Tshwane without a mayor less than a week after Makwarela occupied the position.
* Wits University says the meeting that was scheduled between Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and the University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Zeblon Vilakazi, will be rescheduled after it failed to materialise. Lesufi had tried to intervene in the students' protest that has been taking place since last week. The students are demanding that all students owing 150 thousand rand or less, be allowed to register, the ten-thousand-rand upfront fee for WITS residence be waived and the NSFAS 45-thousand-rand cap for residence be scrapped. Wits students have vowed to continue with protest action until these demands are met.
