NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi came out firing on Monday at the inauguration of the party's National Campaign Council in Abuja, declaring that the purpose of governance is to solve problems, not to blame people.

He accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of lacking competence, capacity, compassion and energy, noting that the President has spent over 260 days outside the country in three years and has never slept in Bayelsa, Anambra or Enugu State.

Concurrently, Obi has demanded the immediate release of his supporter, Rilwan Olawale, who was allegedly seized from his home by DSS operatives on Sunday. NDC Lagos governorship candidate, Funso Doherty first raised the alarm, and supporters are rallying online with #FreeRilwanNow, but neither the DSS nor the Police has confirmed holding him.

Vice-President, Kashim Shettima hit back at Obi on Monday at the opening of the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, dismissing him as a man who offers nothing beyond statistics, and defending the removal of the petrol subsidy.

At the same summit, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo made a case for Made-in-Nigeria products, saying that if Nigerians eat and wear what they produce, the country could create over 10 million jobs. He added that Nigeria needs at least 9 percent annual growth to cut poverty, more than double the current 4 percent.

INEC says it has published the preliminary register of voters online, nearly two weeks after the October 9th to 15th display window closed. Early reactions point to suspected AI-generated photographs, names of deceased persons, missing names of registered voters and technical glitches. INEC says claims and objections will still be processed and the final register will be published on December 15th.

NDC chieftain, Professor Pat Utomi has slammed the APC over brand-new 2026 Toyota Prado SUVs shown in a video posted by APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel on Sunday, calling them an insult to underpaid soldiers. AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore said the 1.1 billion naira reportedly spent on the vehicles could pay 2,200 workers a monthly minimum wage of 500,000 naira.

Amnesty International Nigeria is calling for an independent investigation into a viral video of young marchers in uniforms associated with JIBWIS, chanting in Hausa about attacks on Christians in Enugu and Jos. The group's National Chairman, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau has condemned the video and called for prosecution of those responsible, warning it may be an attempt to damage the group's reputation, while some online users claim the audio was manipulated.

In Borno State, reactions are trailing the sentencing of Lami Samuel Dawa, popularly known online as "Liatu," to 14 years in prison. On May 5th, Justice A. B. Kumalia of the Borno State High Court found her guilty of enticing a teenage girl from her parents' custody and arranging her travel to Jos. Many Nigerians say her only offence was sharing her Christian faith with the girl, who later converted, and the Christian Emergency Alliance has condemned the judgment.

Today, the Nigerian Law School Class of 1986, known as the "Centennial Class," marks forty years since its call to the Bar. The class has produced two Justices of the Supreme Court, two Attorneys-General of the Federation, a Deputy Senate President and a President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Finally, at the 70th Ballon d'Or in London, Afrobeats star, Burna Boy presented the Socrates Award to British-Nigerian footballer, Bukayo Saka for funding 120 surgeries for children in Nigeria. The night's top prize went to England captain, Harry Kane, the first Englishman to win in 25 years.
