Higher institutions of learning such as universities are usually a mark of stability to the country of its origin. Their standard gives a global impression of the standard of the labour force the country possesses. Just because of the presence of a certain university, citizens of that country get a higher wage offer in the international job market compared to others. The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass nearly 1,500 top institutions spread across 86 countries, up from 81 countries last year. The first step in producing these rankings, which are powered by Clarivate, involved creating a pool of 1,748 universities that was used to rank the top 1,500 schools.

Each university is judged in five categories covering the core missions of world-class, global universities. Teaching, research, citations or research influence, industry income and international outlook are the various core missions used in judging and ranking universities. Hence, according to the above categories, here are the top 10 best universities in Africa 2020 according to the U.S. News & World Report for Best Global Universities rankings
10. Addis Ababa University - Ethiopia
Starting this list is the Addis Ababa University or AAU. The Addis Ababa University is a large, highly residential national university in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The university is the oldest school of higher education in Ethiopia with13campuses and has several associated research institutions including the Institute of Ethiopian Studies. Over and above their academic pursuits, AAU students have been actively engaged in community service and political struggle, particularly in the years before the 1974 revolution. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, students were required to do a year of national service under the Ethiopia University Service program. University teachers and students were instrumental in exposing the hidden 1973 famine and launching the first famine relief program. Almost all leaders of the political organizations that were active in the revolutionary years or are in power now had their political formation inside the University. The university of Addis Ababa currently as the 10th best university in Africa and 553rd globally with a score of 48.5.
9. Mansoua University - Egypt
Mansoura University was founded in 1972 in Mansoura city, Egypt and is one of the biggest Egyptian universities which has contributed much to the cultural and scientific life in Mansoura and Egypt. The faculty of medicine was founded in 1962 as a branch of Cairo University. In 2018, the Mansourasaurus, a genus of herbivorous lithostrotian sauropod dinosaur, had been discovered by a team under Mansoura University paleontologist Hesham Sallam and was named after the university. The university has been extremely instrumental in the economic, social-political, and educational environment in Egypt and Africa, hence gaining its position amongst the best. It ranks 547th. The University of Ibadan, UI is a public research university in Ibadan, Nigeria founded in 1948 as University College Ibadan, one of many colleges within University of London. It became an independent university in 1963 and is the oldest degree awarding institution in Nigeria. Through its graduate network, the University of Ibadan has contributed to the political, industrial, economic and cultural development of Nigeria. The history and influence of the University of Ibadan have made it one of the most prestigious universities in Africa. At the time of its establishment as University College Ibadan, students were awarded degrees of the University of London which made it the first-degree awarding institution in Nigeria.
