A political storm is unfolding in Abuja, where the African Democratic Congress is set to proceed with its national convention in just hours at the Rainbow Event Centre, despite fresh allegations that pressure was allegedly mounted on the venue by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to cancel the booking.

The party says preparations continued overnight, with officials on the ground for the 12 pm start, while Nyesom Wike maintains no formal request was submitted.

In Monguno, Borno State, a Nigerian Army Commanding Officer identified as I.A. Mohammed and six soldiers were killed after an IED exploded while repelling a terrorist attack.

The incident adds to rising senior military casualties, with Peter Obi questioning the pattern.

And beyond the battlefield, the human cost continues to unfold, as a University of Jos student abducted alongside six others in Kaduna State appeared in a distress video saying kidnappers are demanding ₦30 million. Authorities are yet to respond, though officials say efforts to curb violence will continue.

In Delta State, outrage is building after a pastor and his wife were attacked during a church service in Ughelli by uniformed men, reportedly using pepper spray or tear gas. The church has launched an investigation amid claims the attackers may be linked to the Royal Rangers.
