Rwanda to Attack Burundi? | Firstpost Africa | N18G

Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye claims to have seen "credible intelligence" that Rwanda is planning to attack his country. He warns that Burundians "will not accept to be killed," as he says is happening to people in neighbouring DR Congo at the hands of Rwanda-backed rebels. He also reiterated accusations that Rwanda tried to stage a coup in Burundi a decade ago. Rwanda has swiftly responded, calling the Burundian president’s comments "surprising." It denies any plan to spark conflict in Burundi but says it remains open to diplomatic dialogue to resolve the tensions. Rwanda and Burundi have long been locked in conflict. Just as DR Congo accuses Rwanda of backing the M23 rebels who have waged a deadly insurgency and seized key territories in eastern DRC, Burundi accuses Rwanda of supporting the Red Tabara rebel group.
