West African states give Niger coup leaders ultimatum | DW News

West African states have given the coup leaders in Niger a one-week ultimatum to give up power. The ECOWAS regional bloc is threatening to use force if Niger's ousted elected president is not reinstated. Neighboring states have also imposed travel and financial sanctions on the junta.
Protesters have attacked the French embassy in the capital Niamey, denouncing the former colonial power. Thousands turned out in support of the coup leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani. Many waved Russian flags, chanting the name of Vladimir Putin.
