RNC 2024: Trump describes assassination attempt in 1st speech since shooting | FULL

Former U.S. president Donald Trump gave the closing speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thursday evening, making his first appearance since an assassination attempt on his life during a rally in Butler, Pa., last Saturday.

“I proudly accept your nomination for the president of the United States,” Trump said as the crowd cheered.

Trump also described the attempt on his life from the would-be assassin and how he turned just before the bullet grazed his ear.

“Behind me and to the right was a large screen that was displaying a chart of border crossings under my leadership… in order to see the chart I started to turn to my right and was ready to begin — a little bit further turned — which I’m really lucky I didn’t do when I heard a loud whizzing sound and felt something hit me really, really hard on my right ear I said to myself, Wow, What was that? It can only be a bullet. And moved my right hand to my ear and brought it down my hand was covered with blood. Just absolutely blood all over the place.”

“I had God on my side,” Trump said adding “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” for which the crowd started chanting “Yes you are!”
